We scheduled a tour through Bon Voyage Travel Agency online. We didn't visit a traditional office. We expressed our concerns and requests pertaining to the itinerary, pick up location and dietary restrictions. We received assurance that everything would be fine. On the date of the tour, we arrived at the designated meeting point approximately 20 minutes before our scheduled pick up time. The time to pick us up came and went. After speaking with a local person, he told us to wait a little longer as the bus may be late for a variety of reasons, so we did. After waiting 45 minutes beyond our scheduled pick up time, we still hadn't been picked up. Unbelievable!
My husband went to the grocery store next to our prearranged meeting spot to connect to their WiFi and sent an email to Bon Voyage. We received an email back with an apology stating that we hadn't been put in the schedule for that day. They asked if we could we take the tour the next day. Although the email appeared to offer a full refund, it was unclear whether this depended whether we wanted to book another tour. We were unsure how to respond. So we didn't answer and instead began our 45-minute walk back to our hotel. I must admit that during the 2.5 mile walk back to our hotel, my husband and I were discussing options as to how to handle the situation, the difficulty in getting a refund, and whether we should do business with this company or look for a different one. Unbelievable!
By the time we arrived back at our lodging facility, Bon Voyage had called 3 times. When our host saw us, he quickly got our attention and said that Bon Voyage was on the phone. My husband spoke to them. Again, they apologized for the mistake and offered a FULL REFUND with the opportunity to still take the tour for FREE! Unbelievable! Without any negotiation, haggling or stress, this was their offer to us. Needless to say, we were impressed.
The next day everything went off without a hitch. We visited the White Temple, the Blue Temple, the Black Museum, the Karen and Lao village, and went to the Golden Triangle with lunch included. It was a long, hot but very enjoyable day.
