A SMALL CORNER OF GERMANY
In Sampantamit Road, that can be called the main street of Udon Thani in many respects, are establishing some locals offering national cuisines. For a long time, and well known, there is the Italian
restaurant Da Sofia. More recently, a small but pleasant local of German cuisine quietly proposed itself, at first as Bar u0026 Restaurant. For a few months it was mainly bar, meeting place of German residents or tourists that around one or two tables consumed a quantity of beers but above all chatted among themselves in their native language. Slowly the place has grown also as a restaurant, and today it is above all such. German Farangs, sometimes with their Thai companions, and tourists attracted by the
national cuisine that is offered to them alternated around the few large tables of the indoor room or the smaller tables of the outside. The restaurant serves few dishes (but they are rapidly growing in number)
and classically Germanic ones: an excellent Wiener schnitzel, a good quality goulash, goulash Suppe, Cordon Bleu, traditional frikadellen and more, dishes accompanied as is customary in Germany by small
salads, a sauce and a good rye bread. As for drinks, the local offers beer of course, but also generous glasses of wine. The Thai cuisine (often of Isaan style) is fresh and tasty. The family setting desired by
Ludwig, a pleasant German from Pfalz Region, involves some slowness in service, but bearable because accompanied by the ever present and smiling kindness of the Thai ladies who serve at the table. Prices
more than affordable.
