The Lost Resort

Nicely situated back from the road among the trees: mostly only heard the singing frogs and occasional gecko/bat in the night. Comfortable bed, good shower, ceiling fan and A.C, and bottled water in the mini-fridge. Good location with amenities close by in either direction (bars, restaurants, street food vendors, scooter rental, beach). Dave (the host) was able to arrange a scooter for us on a busy day when all the rental places we walked past on the way from the pier were sold out - thanks, Dave!

Good area and nice trees. Quiet enough. Old and a bit dirty or at least made me feel so. Neither shampoo nor slippers provided (only soaps). Water is also muddy and merky so I couldn't even wash my face or brush my teeth. I don't know, maybe other hotels in the island have this water problem as well.

PROS: Nicely located, just 150 meters away from Ao Phai beach, and 1km away from the amazing and much better Ao Prao beach.
A man part of the staff there was very helpful even though he could not speak English.
AC was available in the rooms
CONS: Very, very, very dirty, too expensive for such dirty rooms. This hotel really looks like a lost resort which was cleaned for years.
Note that we stayed there 4 nights, and they never came to empty the bins, clean the rooms or change the towels, even once.

The Lost Resort is a fantastic budget accommodation just a short walk from the beach on beautiful Koh Samed. The rooms were tidy and clean, with Aircon and decent bathrooms. It's not the Hilton, but it's a perfect base for a group on an island weekend.
