It's a necessary evil.
Like others have said: buy the ticket from town, not only it'll be cheaper, also, you'll get a free ride to the pier. If you find yourself here by any chance, simply say you are coming back on the same day and the price will drop. Return tickets aren't dated.
Regarding the shops at the entrance of the pier, stay away.
It's a 32 minutes walk to Krabi town, so about 2 Kms.

Phi Phi Island Pier is another tourist attraction place in Krabi. The place is located in the bank of Andaman sea having a immigration office for customs entry and exit. And the ferry and boat service from there to nearest island also available. The monument of Somdetch Phra Paramindr Maha Chulalongkorn or Rama V also found there! The distance from main town to the place is 5/6 km. A nice calm and quite place to roaming around and hangout with friends and family!

Phi phi island pier.
They charge you when you arrive there too.
The place is really nice and it’s the perfect spot to get some amazing pics of the sunset.

I will never use the Chukit Phi Phi Ferry (Ferry name: Atchara, Blue and Purple one on photos) again.The pier as such is organised and functioning, but how they can let the Phi Phi Chukit ferry operate here I don't understand. I end up booking a ticket on the Chukit Phi Phi ferry only to wish it I didn't. I honestly can't think that I could have booked a worse ferry.

1. The Chukit Phi Phi company picked us up 30min late.
2. You can't see out of the ferries cabins windows as the plastic windows are so badly scratched.
3. The ferry departed 30min late without any notice.
4. The crew are rude and there is little place to sit outside.

My point: According to me it is not a well functioning ferry and also a ride were the chances of you getting see sick is all to good. I think there is better travel operators then Phi Phi Chukit travel company.

I had much better experience using the ferries at Noparatthara Pier, very close to Ao Nang Beach.

Unpleasant experience, Mayhem. make sure you have the exact change for the environment tax or else you will be out of pocket.

This isnt the greatest of piers in all honesty. In every way overpriced! 450 baht to get to Koh Phi Phi!? You can go from Dover (UK) to Calais (France) cheaper than that! These companies are getting too greedy. As for the food, dont even chance it! Better to go from Phuket pier.

The pier locates quite far from Ao Nang beach. Can travel from the pier to Ao Nang/Noppharat Thara area by joint van/car with price range from 100-150B/pax. Just walk out and ask, bargain as much as you can.
