This beautiful old building has been converted into a small museum that offers a glimpse into Chiang Rai’s past. Photography displays occupy most of the rooms, complemented by a few television screens with looping video footage and a small number of paintings.

While many of the images are fascinating, the museum as a whole unfortunately feels unfinished. Other than the displays themselves, the rooms are entirely empty. The photos have small captions in Thai, but they provide few to no details. No English translations are present, making the exhibits even more incomprehensible for foreign visitors.

The museum is worth visiting simply for the architecture and photos if you’re already in the area. However, I would love to see it expanded more with greater historical context, and more exhibits and artifacts.
