Amazing temple to visit, highly recommended! There's actually a few different temples and it's right by the river so is very tranquil. Very quiet and quite a few chickens running around also!

A huge temple complex at the riverside of the river Ping. The temple is visited by tourist and locals. At the entrance is a shop which sells animals as birds and fish, which can be released. I think this might give good luck. In the back is a pier, boats can bring you across the river.

Beautiful Temple to visit in Chiang Mai! Really enjoyed overlooking the river and seeing one of the largest trees in Chiang Mai. This temple is still active so as always dress appropriately.

Wat Chai Mongkhon (Thai: วัดชัยมงคล, also spelled Chai Mongkol) is a Buddhist temple (wat) in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. The temple is located by the Ping River, on Charoen Prathet Road in the old city center. It is believed to have been built during the reign of King Tilokaraj (1441–1487), and serves an old Mon community.[1][2] Its architecture demonstrates Amarapura–Mandalay influence

As you can see from my photos, the Wat Chai Mongkhon temple is famous for its patronage and location.
The actual decoration isn't that different from other temples, but being positioned so close to the old city and right alongside the Ping river, makes this a super popular temple visited by both Thai's and foreigners alike.
