We came here for the dim sum festival at 498B per pax. It's a Michelin 1 star restaurant, which set high expectations. However, it's underwhelming. The dim sum quality is below average. May be it's not freshly made. The fried rice is terrible, it's a sin. We hope that the quality would improve.

There was no recommendation for reservation at this restaurant by the hotel. So we walked in for the dim sum buffet at 11.45am itself. But were turned away from a restaurant by a lady with just one table occupied. We came back later and asked for reservation for the next available day for the same buffet, and then some other guy came and said he can give us a table now itself.

So we got the table, finished our lunch, and by end of it by 2pm so many tables were still unoccupied. Not sure why have to turn us away at first saying restaurant is full!

Also, when we went, we were waiting outside while the staff saw us and were inside chatting. Took them a while to come out and greet us. It is very unusual for Thailand to have this kind of attitude and service. The food was so-so. Not worthy of any Michelin recommendation. Wouldn't eat here again.

Oh btw, when we left not a single staff even said thank you or a bye though they were at the entrance. Again, not a pleasant experience.

Good service, nice flavours. Tried the Sichuan Hot Pot. Nice with many dip sauces to choose from. The expectation was even higher though considering Michelin mentioning the restaurant. Not disappointed but not 5 stars either.

We were told that China Kitchen offers the best Dim Sum experience in Chiang Mai, and we came with high expectations. Unfortunately those expectations were not met. The service was slow and yet the dim sum came out cold and insipid. We had hoped to offset our disappointment with the dim sim with some nice Peking duck. Unfortunately it is only available via advance order. Hopefully they were just having a bad night. Overall, a disappointing experience.

I have lived in Chiang mai for four years and have eatten at many dim sum restaurants during that time. I visit the Shangri-la in Bangkok almost every time I am in town and have had wonderful experiences. So, after reading about the Dim Sum buffet at the Shangri-la in Chiang Mai I really wanted to try it out so I called to see if they had availability for us (party of four) on the weekend. They said yes but did not request we make a reservation. When we arrived they said we needed a reservation but after talking to the manager we we seated. Things went down hill from there. Even though we had arrived at noon, several items we "not available". We we told that no beverage, including water, came with the meal. We ordered a tea which we had to serve ourserves because they dropped the pot off at the end of the table and left. All refills on the tea had to requested as no one ever came to see how we were doing or how the food tasted. Most of the dim sum and the other dishes we ordered came out luke warm or cold. Service in Thailand is shotty at most restaurants by American standards but I was expecting something of a higher quality at the Shangri-la. Although it was a buffet by order, it was extremely difficult to get the attention of anyone to place additional orders. We quickly learned that we had to order new dishes when the servers delivered food because servers simply disappeared despite there only being 7 tables with guests. In the end, it felt like the servers purposefully remained out of sight to avoid having to take additional orders making us feel like an encumbrance rather than guests. As far taste, fair is the best I can muster. I actually felt embarrassed that I had invited my friends for the experience. What was supposed to be a nice meal at a nice hotel turned out to be a very bad experience. I know it may appear like I'm ranting, but nothing is exaggerated or made up. For the price, service, and quality of food I highly recommend you avoid this buffet, at least at the Shangri-la Chiang mai location, and save yourself the disappointment and frustration.

Bad experience. We went for the weekend buffet and the quality of dim sum is so bad. 1) they came out in steam baskets but COLD!! Clearly not freshly made 2) Dee fried ones are heavily fried 3) steamed buns have wayyyy more dough than content, and dough was very doughy and had an uncooked smell. 4) they’ll charge you for water 5) the first round of dim sum had us wait 20 minutes (and yes, they came out cold) Plus, location was wrong - it’s on first floor lounge but we had to call to find out. Moreover, the reception guy was rude and had no concept of first come first serve. Spend your 1000 baht elsewhere for a 10 times better 2 people meal. Oh and did I mention I had to call twice and wait 10 minutes to make a booking? And they asked if I was “paying with coupon or cash”. I guess if I said coupon they wouldn’t have let me book on that day. All that should’ve been seen as a red flag. Would recommend reviewing their 5 star status as a hotel because it clearly isn’t
