is a royal palace of the reign of King Taksin the Great before the city was relocated to Phra Nakhon side of the Chao Phraya River in the reign of King Rama I the Great. It is now in the Naval Headquarters area because it has been considered as an important stronghold since ancient times. Inside the palace, there is the Shrine of King Taksin the Great, Thong Phra Rong, Building, Chao Somdej Phra Pinklao Palace, Wichai Prasit Fort, etc.

Thonburi Palace is mostly closed for public as it now serves as the headquarter of Thailand's Navy headquarters. However, during special days such as its anniversary, it would be open to public for a short period. While taking pictures is prohibited within the buildings, visitors are allowed to take pictures outside the buildings.

The old palace of King Taksin, who fought the Burmese invasion and initially moved the capital city from Ayutthaya to Thonburi side of Bangkok. This palace does not have elaborate decorations, compared to the Grand Palace across the river, but it’s another slice of Thai history that’s worth exploring. The place is located nearby Wat Arun so you can get here from the river crossing ferry which costs 5 Bht each trip. Or you can take the MRT Blue line and get off at Issarapap station, then take a 10 minutes walk to this place. The palace will be open for 2 weeks in December every year for public visit.

Beautiful old royal palace complex, unfortunately open to the public just few weeks in December due to its location at the acting naval base.

Beautiful historical place. Very well maintained by the Royal Navy. Follow the dress code otherwise you will be turned away.

I was lucky enough to go visit there when Wang Derm Palace (พระราชวังเดิม)’s open for 2 weeks for all to go visit. Unfortunately, most of the places just don’t allow taking photos nor videos.

Though, you could always go and pay some respect at the King Taksin the great just right in front of the palace. It's always open!
