Never before in my hotel stays around the world have I been treated so rudely at breakfast as at Jomtien Thani Hotel. The employees were interested in their mobile phones, in nothing else. The guests are not greeted, plates are only cleared away when you ask the staff to do so. I spilled something because the table was shaking. Nobody came to help me, I had to change tables.
When I complained to the manager (a lady at the front desk who said she was the manager), she didn't seem too surprised and mechanically apologized. Apparently it is standard in this hotel that, for example, the staff (with the exception of the reception) never greet or return a greeting to a hotel guest. There is a strangely anonymous, almost hostile atmosphere everywhere. No sign of cordiality or that you are a welcome guest.
The fact that instant coffee and hot water is offered at the breakfast buffet may be standard for a canteen but has not been for a supposedly mid-range hotel for at least 20 years. Otherwise it was one of the worst buffets I had in Thailand. I left the evening before my last night because I could easily do without that breakfast.
The rooms were quite ok for an old hotel, very spacious, but only superficially cleaned. There was a lot of dust on shelves and tables. Apparently the hotel is not finding enough staff, I was told. Whoever believes it will be saved.
So if you want to enjoy the rudest employees in the land of smiles, go to Jomtien Thani Hotel. It's a good example of how an actually decent hotel in a good location is put down by management for not training and controlling their staff. Pity! Exclude from my criticism NUT PAPINDA, ASST. RESERVATION MANAGER who was helpful and friendly in helping me with my reservation requests.
