Checked in at Intercontinental Bangkok just about noon and was starving badly as I didn't ate breakfast
So I frantically asked around for Thai food nearby and was introduced to this place which is literally a min walk within the hotel compound. My first impression was that there wasn't hardly any person around except a couple who was dining then. I was hesitant but decided to give it a shot after seeing 4 stars rating. Food was satisfactory - though the Tom yam soup, fried egg and coconut were very good. Didn't enjoy the green curry and grilled beer (found the first to be too strong a taste, and the latter too dry). I also didn't enjoy the fact that the waiters were chatting very loudly; it did damper the atmosphere a bit given that it was quite quiet with no other guests. Not sure if I will return back.

Beautifully charming Thai Style house ambience conveniently located in the heart of Bangkok. Excellent Thai authentic food and friendly smile of services. Highly recommended for those who are in Bangkok and love to find one that touch your heart!

Just warning expat living in Thailand

Dear friends,

I would like to share a bad experience I had today.
My Thai friends brought me to a nice restaurant at the Intercontinental Hotel Chidlom named Sawasdee restaurant. The food there was good, at decent price, less than 100 THB for good quality. I have decided then to bring my French colleagues to share a nice meal together.
When seated, they brought us the menu in English. How surprised I was to see that the price tripled!

Here some examples:
Khao Pad Moo/Kai: 70 THB (Thai price) / 290 THB (English price)
Khao Pad Seafood: 90 THB (Thai price) / 320 THB (English price)
Guay Tiaw Rad Na Talae: 100 THB (Thai price) / 390 THB (English price)

Then I asked the waiter to have the menu in Thai.
Me: Can I have the Thai menu, like usual, please?
Waiter: No, you cannot
Me: Why is that?
Waiter: Because this menu is only for office people working around here
Me: My friends and I are working here, we are expats, not tourists
Waiter: Yes, but your friends are not Thai
Me: Could you check with the manager?
Waiter: The manager agrees to give you the Thai price only for you; but your friends will have to pay the “normal price”
Me: Ok; never mind, we will have lunch somewhere else
I could not believe that my friends had to pay 3 / 4 times the normal price just because they were Caucasians. I mean, we live in Thailand, we pay taxes like any good citizen, but at the end we are considered as money providers.
And finally, I would like to add that I love Thailand, this is my second home. I have more good memories than bad memories here. I know that most of the Thai restaurants are not like this one, please be aware of it and warn your friends.

Great food. Authentic, delicious and I just love it. Great restaurant atmosphere and just amazing service. Food service is really quick. Should be on the list of MUST visit thai restaurants!
