5 Simple Man - a year ago

It's definitely not the Double Tree but humbly beautiful and good prices but restroom is separate from the rooms.
Only has a wall fan for cooling.
I didn't mind walking to the beach but it's a pretty good walk but that's your only transportation anyways on the whole island so you get used to it.

Great place. When you look at the other places and this one I can tell you that you get the same but with an amazing view. We had a private room (when you stay more nights the price gets cheaper) there are also dorm rooms downstairs. The shared bathroom and shower area was clean enough. Very good location. And did I mention the view? :-)

A decent place to stay for not-too-much Baht. We paid a mere 700 baht per night for our a/c room with a lovely seaside view. The Rock is rather downtown and has big dorms but the noise is really quite manageable. The location, build on a rather steep (man made?) rock which contains several rooms separated mainly by stairs, is quite beautiful. The room was relatively clean and it has a private bathroom with a shower and a toilet. The matrass was a bit rough however.

Centrally located the Rock Backpackers looks like it was once a popular place but is looking a little neglected now and doesn't offer the services to the type of visitor the name suggests.
WiFi is only available close to reception - not in rooms. If you like your tv there is only Thai channels.
Staff are friendly enough but need to be more conscientious.

I stayed in the hostel dorm room because it was only 150 baht, but the beds were horribly uncomfortable and they had minimal linens. The washrooms didn't even have toilet paper or soap. The dorm room only had one electrical outlet for about 16 beds and the door kept being propped open so there were many bugs. Splurge for a private room or another place to stay...

Rented a private fan room, and it's a great price. The mattress and pillows are very stiff, but it was a good sized room for what I paid. friendly staff also

Disgusted at the customer service. We suspected they might have bed bugs after my friends legs were covered in what resembled bed bug bites. We explained this and asked for a refund which they refused. At 2pm I informed them we would be staying somewhere else and the lady got very angry demanding money for a late check out and threatened to call the police. I argued this and eventually just threw 100baht to her which she accepted even though she demanded 300baht. (Probably just wanted some extra cash considering she wasn't the boss apparently) I explained that their approach to customer service was shocking and very bad for business. She didn't seem happy when I mentioned I would post a very bad review... don't stay here.
