Two great informative museums in Khon Kaen- the national museum and the city museum “Hung Moon Mung”. This one explained the history and traditional culture of Khon Kaen . I learned more how the “Isaan” beliefs and heritage evolved through the centuries. Most of the information is in English also.
Unfortunately, ( as with many Thai municipal government projects), the professionally built museum has not been maintained- so the lighting is poor and in some areas the roof leaks. Sad to see the government neglect such a city treasure.

Small museum but good for understanding how khon Kean is developed from village to city; impressed by an exhibit showing key activities in each Thai calendar month; love Thailand more afterwards.

A museum not taken much care of it, though the story of folk life is very interesting. 90 bath for foreigner is quite pricy.

It is museum about city history. Very nice organised and good place to learn the history of and surrounding area.

The varied exhibits illustrate traditional life, religion, and history of people in Isan. The museum is in 5 zones in a large semicircular arrangement. Open Tuesday to Sunday 0900-1700; closed Monday and holidays. Foreign admission is 90 baht. Worth supporting.

Interesting history on the start of Khon Kean .
I wasn't impressed at being asked to pay tourist price of 90 baht when Thai are 10 baht . It's a nasty Thai problem called discrimination and illegal in most places around the world.

For history buffs. Nice compilation of the city's history. Easy to miss.
