Where to start with this hostel. It's fantastic, I'll get that out of the way first and definitely made my stay in Chiang Mai way better than it was prior to staying here.
The hostel is very homely, simple and has everything you need to feel comfortable during your stay. Ton, the owner, is an absolute gem of a human being and was integral to the stay. He made such an effort to learn everyone's names, ask them what they were doing and offered a pile of recommendations. He even helped out multiple times with other companies and phoned them for us. Ton is a font of knowledge and will happily help you out if you need anything. Ton even made us breakfast in the morning, it's so sweet and you can't beat how great of a feeling you get in this hostel.
It's a typical dormitory set-up - bunk-beds, but with enough privacy so that you have your own little nook to sleep in. It is a small hostel, so you have to be quiet during the earlier hours, but even the first floor room had a door that pretty much blocked out all of the noise. No issues with cleanliness, but you will have to make do with communal washing areas that do unfortunately have the occasional mozzie in them (although, it is Thailand, so it's unescapable).
If you're a solo-traveller, I would even recommend this place over the other hostels in the area, namely the party ones. Those may have more mod-cons, but I met so many great people in this hostel simply because of how cosy it is and the people it attracted.
Location is fantastic and you're slap in the middle of the old city, so you can walk to pretty much anywhere you need, the bars, restaurants, laundry and markets are all on your feet. It's also just enough out of the way, despite being next to the main road, that you still feel slightly tucked away from the crowds.
