Stunning place. The sky villas have a great view and loved the private pool. Shame about the sand - is a bit too thick. But overall loved it. Will defo come back ❤️

Great experience at W. My first trip to Thailand, visiting from Australia, had some time after a conference in Bangkok. I have never encountered such friendly attentive staff - was treated like family. I was in a one bedroom villa with ocean view. Very spacious, lots of storage, closet space, work desk. Good size TV screen (though couldn't cast from my phone/of). Massive bathroom with indoor and outdoor rainforest showers, free-standing bath-tub. Entire villa has stunning views across the straight to Ko Pha Ngan (Samui's sister island to the north), across the private infinity pool. Short walk to beach where kayaks etc for hire. Breakfast buffet superb with more friendly, relaxed but never intrusive service. Well equipped very clean gym and pool. Hire scooter was easy to organise - delivered to resort. Highly recommended. I'm trying hard to give a balanced review - only minor improvement I can think of is just a little more water pressure for showers would be nice. Staff totally calm and patient even when I got cranky about AUD / BHT exchange rate on check-out.
Beautiful resort, can't praise staff enough, special thanks to Mac (shuttle to and from room - great source of local knowledge) and Alex for taking care of me each day in breakfast buffet. Can't wait to visit again. Would be a perfect honeymoon location!

The staff at the W Koh Samui were very welcoming. From the welcome drinks at the sit down check in, to the breakfast buffet, personal touches were showered upon us.

A particularly exceptional staff member is Mr. SUPAMONGKON WARANUPAPKUN, the welcome manager. He emailed me before my trip with advice on hotel transfer arrangements and what to do around the island. Throughout our stay he met with us for restaurant recommendations and was just generally interested in what we like and who we are.

The rooms are all separate chalets with personal pools. Great air con, mood lighting inside and outside, black out blinds all drawn with turn down service just too many extras to list.

Maenam Beach is quiet and clean especially when you compare it to Chaweng. A very high quality property with staff that make it even better, the W Koh Samui is excellent.

MAKE SURE YOU READ MY REVIEW IF YOU ARE EXPECTING 5 STARS:

NOTE TO MARRIOT u0026 W HOTELS. I will remove this review if you can assure me you are taking steps to swiftly solve the MAJOR problems at hand at the property.

#1. Beach area is not properly maintained. There are cigarette butts and trash. Also, beach area is not tidy and simply looks disheveled and uncared for. There are no recliner chairs and service is non existent. I mean it is bad. The bean bag recliners and mattresses that they use throughout the property look unkempt, almost like an afterthought. This is absolutely unacceptable especially based on the pricing, the reputation of the W brand, and not to mention the stiff competition on Koh Samui.

#2 Condition of the property: The general ‘hip’ aesthetic is not aging well and that is clear here. Read the Wikipedia entry for W Hotels and you will see that it is known that they are struggling with this and that is clear here. Example: how is Rich Uncle Pennybags, the mascot of the Monopoly board game, on display throughout the resort? I mean I’m all for abstract art and love Andy Warhol, but this seems immature and in poor taste.

The beach access pool villa we stayed in was beautiful, however, it needs better outdoor ambient lighting at night time. Also, as I noted to Ian, it did not have the recliner chairs for use in the garden area. The interior was admittedly beautiful, but it is the outdoor area that was just looking depressing. Also, keep in mind that you are on what should arguably be one of the most amazing beaches in Thailand, yet you can’t see it from any of the beach access or tropical villa rooms which are currently at about $13,500 THAI Baht per night mind you.

#3 Service. Service was average overall. Some people do appear to know and understand what is going on. There are people who care (Big, Ian, u0026 their executive chef Manuch (Sp?); but unfortunately it’s not enough to save this disaster at the moment. Also, it appears they may be lacking support from corporate. As noted by another reviewer 4 months ago, the server at the beach was literally using his phone while interacting with me. How in any way is that respectful to your customer? We simply left the beach area to venture to the main pool.

#4 Main Pool. There are a total of (6) recliners and 2 daybeds, all of which were unkempt. The area looks sort of sun damaged and unwelcoming. You get a rolled green towel and a warm water bottle. There is no service here as far as food or beverage. So why on your hard earned vacation would you even want to go there?

#5 Dining: Numa and The Kitchen Table.

Sure they’re pretty good. But this is no fine dining environment and I know what I’m talking about. The THAI Baht $2900 (US82) whole lobster Udon, for example, was not photo ready. Just image search it on Google. Plus it’s Canadian Lobster. I mean common give us Phuket Lobster this is Thailand. It did not have the characteristics of a high end presentation.

However, I will award the Fu0026B outlets 4-stars (But even that is being generous!) The true effort was there, but there is a lot lacking.

Breakfast at The Kitchen Table: This was the best effort I witnessed at the property.

IN CONCLUSION:

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you absolutely AVOID this property until these issues are resolved. Go somewhere else with a beach chair for example and NO TRASH on the beach! Oh man.

IF THIS REVIEW IS STILL HERE, IT MEANS THAT MARRIOT u0026 W HOTELS HAS NOT CONFIDENTLY ASSURED ME THAT THESE ISSUES ARE NOTED OR BEING ADDRESSED.

Just look for the peeking paint when you arrive at the valet and from there you will start to see how it all unravels. The reception desk does not even have a working printer for god sakes! Just about everything is dingy, overlooked and unkempt, except for their pricing!

Cancel your booking and save yourself this nightmare and money!

The stay and everything was good. But when i called at 2 AM for food they denied and they said they have closed the restaurant they close at 11. Being a 7 star hotel i expected they would serve food at night. And the staff also doesn’t understand english properly. Very bad on W. Had more expectations from W

Sunday brunch every second Saturday of a month.

The food quality was very good with a wide selection. Very tasty. The menu did change a bit every time we visited.

The sushi bar prepared assorted fresh sushi on time in small batches. Some of them were even vegan friendly. Fresh and delicious.

By far, this was the best brunch in the island. Looking forward to the next.

Well done team. Hope the quality would sustain.

Great hotel but it’s the service that makes it a cut above!
Very quickly feels like home
