Be warned this a long review..
Im not really a resort type of person so I hope that the review does not read as being biased.
The Good:
The hotel staff are ultra friendly.
They fitted myself and my wife into the room as a last minute booking (be warned) there are 2 or 3 hotels in Koh Samui with very similar names so make sure you are reading the review for the correct hotel. The back of the hotel leads to the beach and there are rooms which lead directly to the swimmining pool. The pool has a bar area and looks clean. The dining area is undercover and the rooms are cleared daily. The staff speak very good english, however; if you find it difficult to explain something you (as the individual travelling to Thailand and as a non-speaking Thai) should have a translation tool on your phone such as Google translate or Samsung translate.
Breakfast was free and the bed was ok to sleep on. The location was pretty good especially if you leave the hotel and walk right you really dont need to get a Tuk Tuk but you can if you want (100 Baht per person on the bus).
The bad:
Overpriced! For what l paid I would have expected alot more (£131 for 2 days). This should be a budget resort rather than an overpriced one.
On most parts the room was clean, but my one gripe was today. It rained really hard and thats when I discovered that the hotel hasn't really set itself up to deal with the weather changes to protect guests from the rain. When there is a downpour and individuals have to walk outside to get to the dining area they will get soaked so make sure you have a waterproof on or an umbrella to hand. The room was big with no real utilisable space and in the evening the room's lighting was dim. This was due to there not being a side light. The breakfast was ok (not bad,not good, but edible). And the food wasnt presented to my hygiene levels, the pineapple juice was terrible and I really do not understand why they did not supply fresh orange juice rather than that terrible tasting overtly sweet cordial tasting drink. There didnt seem to be any visible umbrellas placed near the sun loungers (see pictures). The pool seemed clean enough.
And the Ugly:
There were random lizards in the hallway and a cockroach in the room.
Yes you read right just sitting in the corner of the room there was a cockroach. I really hate cockroaches as even though they are part of the natural environment (did you know that they have been around since the time of the dinosaurs, can survive nuclear blasts and can withstand 5 times the pressure of their own body) I would have thought that this could be avoided in an overpriced resort such as this (the cockroach may have been missed or hiding during cleaning as we did book and move into the room last minute so although the last minute booking is not a suitable excuse it may have been a plausable reason).
The price does not match what it is, what you get and what is presented (which is why I dont really like resorts). With resorts you pay for an experience! You pay to escape your work, the rinning around of cooking and cleaning. Its an escape from your normal way of life. You can get a beach, fun experiencies, the good local pool and the escape from the usual 9 - 5 way of living. But, you have the option of re-entering the hustle and bustle of the environment by simply leaving the resort whenever you wish. This was accomplished by this resort.
Overall
This was not the kind of location that I would usually stay at and i did not feel thatvthd price reflected thst which I received. But I do think that it is in a good location and would suit the majority of people.
There are also three hotels with similar names in Samuia. So establish before booking whether you are paying for:
1. Samui resort ..........................I would avoid
2. The Samui Beach resort.........over priced
3. The Samui resort.....................I didnt need to visit
Make sure you pick the right one as all are in different locations.
