Before entering the world of teaching English abroad, I had done a lot of research on TEFL and TESOL course centres and there are 100's of them.
My fiancé and I decided to do a 120 hour online course, mainly because it was cheap and easy to navigate through. The online course gave a bunch of information and was very simply laid out, but in no way prepared you for the classroom environment and the many obstacles a teacher is likely to face. I dug a little deeper and found Chichester college, operating out of Bangkok, Thailand and since that's where I was hoping to work it made sense to find out more about it.
I started speaking to one of Chichester's recruitment administrators and I was constantly impressed at the efficiency and detail I received in his responses. Chichester had a very strong air of professionalism from the very first email.
Once all my questions had been answered and everything checked out we headed to Bangkok and entered the comprehensive 4 week Chichester training course. Not only is the course conducted by highly certified and experienced teachers, it also incorporates a nice balance of personal teaching practice to Thai students, allowing you to put the information into practice right from the get go. You are thoroughly assessed with constant supportive feedback given and the team display a genuine interest in developing you as a teacher.
The course is not a walk in the park, it will quickly separate the idle goers from those who take it seriously, and for those who do take teaching seriously I could not recommend Chichester college more.
Great team, solid course, helpful staff, affordable and certified and if that's not enough, Chichester finds a teaching position for you once you complete the course.
I've been in the teaching profession for 4 years since getting my Chichester certificate and I would not have been half as successful without their training.
