The Location
the place itself will probably feel a bit off initially, but once you get the feel for the area of Laem Chabang then you’ll understand that it’s actually a great place to have as a basecamp to kick-off from to places like Pattaya, Siracha (Ko Sichang) Bang Saen and Chonburi Town.
The Food
Oh my God! I have been visiting Thailand for 30 years and nothing can top the the quality, love and taste of the food they offer. The menu covers highlights from the western as well as the traditional Thai kitchen and also dishes from Isaan that one might not expect to find in a place like this. The Pizza they serve deserves a chapter on its own. I’m pretty sure Italians will eat them with tears of envy in their eyes… It’s easily the best Pizza I have had… Not only in Thailand but worldwide. They are made in their self-designed and built combined gas / wood¬-driven oven. I also had the Spaghetti Bolognese and it was unbelievable. I would say that merely the pizza and the spaghetti is worth a visit to try. You will not be disappointed. I usually keep away from the western dishes when I’m in Thailand but this was too good to be overlooked. I also tried the Thai courses and I was equally impressed. The traditional green curry was divine… fantastic taste and well balanced. I was also happy to see that the dishes deriving from Isaan was not tampered with wish sometimes, in other places, is the case to satisfy the french-fries loving westerners. It had that great taste of Isaan that I love. The menu simply offers dishes for everyone and I promise no one will leave disappointed.
The facilities and rooms
It’s a small resort. They house 2 bungalows that I easily would have paid 2000 Thb for but they “give it away” for 1200 Thb. The Bungalows are equipped with a comfortable king sized bed, air condition, a big bathroom with separated basin and shower room, free and fast Wi-Fi, a lot of closets and drawers for storing clothes and other stuff. They also rent out rooms located in beautiful self-constructed houses for 900 Thb but I didn’t stay in those so I don’t know what they looked like.
The swimming pool is clean and comfy. They use high-tech to generate chlorine by the use of salt and I simply love it. Miles away from those acid baths that up to 90% makes up the swimming pools in Thailand where you have to shower for 3 hours to get the smell of Chlorine off your body. Nothing of such biohazards in this pool.
The owner is a total garden-nerd and it shows. Everything is situated in a beautiful garden with banana, jack-fruits, mango, coconut trees as well as Orchids and plants with such beauty that you just want to sit down and meditate in this paradize. You will always find one of the owners poking around somewhere in the garden.
The Owners and their staff!
The owners are a married couple that has retired to Thailand from the USA. The wife is Thai but with 30 years in the States they both handles English fluently. The husband is American and a true story teller. I so much enjoyed spending hours every day talking with him. It didn’t take long before they felt like my new family. So good-hearted and kind. They both made sure I didn’t fell bored for a second during my 7 days stay.
Last but not least… their wonderful staff. I warms my heart everytime I get to experience that “land of a thousand smiles”-smile because… honestly… It doesn’t happen that often nowadays in Thailand anymore, but boy did I get that here. The owners treat their staff like their children and you can see that it effects how the staff perform. They are self-going and happy and that reflects on how they treat the customers. It was so nice to be met with those big smiles every morning when I was having breakfast. I just wanted to adopt them all!
Ending Words
I am a frequent visitor to Thailand and the Thai Orchid Village is a place I will always have as a location to visit in the future.
Top score from me!
See you soon!
