Street food is an iconic symbol of Bangkok, but some of the city’s best food can be found in the shophouses that combine businesses on the first floor and residences upstairs. These shops are often family-run, carrying down generations-old recipes.

@khruasomhom (ครัวส้มหอม) is one of the city’s iconic shophouse restaurants, offering soups, stir fries, and salads. Some of our favorite dishes here are Tom Kha Gai (chicken-coconut-galagal soup), Pad Phrik Khing (a spicy stir fry with curry paste), and Yum Tua Pu (winged bean salad).

A quiet little restaurant. I had no expectation since there was only one table occupied when I was there, but the food was nice!

Waiting time might be longer if there’s other customers, as it looks like there’s only 1-2 kitchen staff. From the photo you can see I already scoop some soup because I can’t wait until all my orders are served.

Overall I think it’s a nice secret spot.

Absolutle delicious! One of the best restaurant in Bangkok!!

All dishes were perfectly prepared and cooked selling in an economical price. All we ordered today here in photos (plus 7 plates of boiled rice and three bottles of water) cost us only 17 Pounds.

Note, there were only two staffs handling everything in the place (taking the order, cooking, serving, cleaning the table and checking). If you are really starving, this place might not be the good choice.

A family restaurant owned by locals with great food and good prices. The crispy omelette and stir-fried sea bass from the “recommended” dishes were both excellent.

“The Hidden Gem in Bangkok Old Town Area”

This restaurant doesn’t look like restaurant at all, it looks like normal home. However, they served fantastic dishes that are tasty and have same taste as a big restaurant. Crucially, ingredients were fresh and the prices were reasonable. (I paid 355 THB for 4 dishes with 2 plates of steamed rice and one bottle of water)

Don’t miss this following dishes
• Deep Fried Shrimp with salted egg sauce (120 THB) : This is so gooooood! Shrimps were fresh and salted egg sauce was scrumptious.

• Spicy sour tamarind curry with shrimp and tropical acacia (climbing wattle) fried egg (85 THB) : if you like “Tom yum kung” this is also another option of Thai local soup that you must try.

Warning!
This restaurant may take a very long time cooking. It’s because they have home-style cooking and didn’t have a lot of staffs. By the way, if you want to try Thai local food with reasonable price and tasty. You shouldn’t miss “Krua Som Hom”. At least try once and you will never regret. ????

Home cooking restaurant, grandma doing the cooking while daughter serves. So don't complain if it is slow when there are more tables, and each is ordering different dish. The food is fresh and tasty. Ran out of battery so only one photo took... Recommended if you are around that area.

Very small hole in the wall with outstanding food and very low prices. The Thai Omelet and Lemongrass Cashew Nut Chicken are phenomenal.
