Beyond its beautiful architecture and fancy decor, the Sindhorn Kempinski leaves much to be desired. I’ve dined here 3 times and consistently experienced the same pain points.
In my opinion and based on experience with other Kempinski properties, this one does not live up to the Kempinski standard of service and quality. I genuinely want this property to do well and think they have the basis and potential to be a 5-star property. However, there is a lack in execution and attention to detail.
Nevertheless, in the spirit of leaving a balanced review, I’d like to start with what they got right:
-Immediately greeted by staff upon entrance (no door staff which is odd for a luxury hotel)
- Polite staff that quickly took food and drink orders
-Thai food offerings from a Michelin star chef
- Beautiful plating - a feast for the eyes
-Staff asked guests if they had any allergies or dietary restrictions without being prompted
Suggestions for improvement (taking into consideration that this is a 5-star hotel offering dishes from a 1-star Michelin chef):
-Inform guests if a shared dish contains allergens. For example, a person in our party was allergic to nuts and informed staff when they were asked. However, the staff still brought nut-based snacks for sharing without pointing it out.
-Provide sharing plates for appetizers
-Clear dirty plates and glasses. Wipe crumbs off the table after each course or when a guest signals they are finished (e.g. utensils are closed on the plate, plates are pushed to the side or there’s no more food left on the table). I experienced this at every single visit. Staff would walk by, look at our dirty dishes, and leave them there. This last time we even asked if our dishes could be cleared and the staff member said yes then walked away. I think the staff member got distracted and forgot. I believe this small change of promptly clearing the table could greatly enhance the customer’s experience.
-Be more attentive to guests and notice the details. I gave examples above but other suggestions include folding napkins when a guest goes to the restroom, ask guests if they would like something more to drink when their glass is empty.
