Being from BKK, admittedly with my snobby attitude about dining ‘up country’, I hadn’t expected such a delightful surprise from Grey Cabin (‘GC’).
This is a very casual, small local eatery in a quiet residential area—there’s no restaurant decor to speak of u0026 minimalist comfort perhaps best describes its vibe.
But ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’—come here for a decent meal with generous portion sizes, for what IMO is an exceptionally reasonable price.
A mother u0026 daughter duo own u0026 operate GC—running the front u0026 back of the house, respectively.
The daughter isn’t merely a cook, but rather, a true ‘chef’ with overseas training u0026 experience. Her menu is unusually expansive u0026 varied, mainly with western style food choices—there would seem to be something on this menu for most everyone.
The chef takes pride in her craft u0026 skill, u0026 there’s an obvious, careful attention to detail with the food quality, preparation u0026 presentation (all the posted photos in Google truly show it like it is).
The mother, out in front, is accommodating u0026 attentive, having sincere concern to ensure a pleasurable dining experience.
Frankly, though, the food delivery was slow u0026 IMO the sequence disjointed (I dined with a party of 4, u0026 there were 6 or 7 other customers at that time)—so, better for all to just relax, temper your expectations, u0026 recognize that this is a small-scale operation with minimal staffing.
I wasn’t at all disappointed when the meal did arrive—it proved worthy of the wait u0026 was satisfying u0026 very tasty.
For western style food, I can’t imagine there’d be many (any?) other restaurants in UTH, offering the value-for-money, menu variety, u0026 delicious, quality food, as GC did.
I agonized a bit, but objectively judged GC a 4* overall rating—IMO the food was 5* though offset by 3* for service pace u0026 ambiance.
I’ll gladly return to GC on my next visit to UTH u0026 would be excited to explore its many menu choices.
I urge others to give GC a try—though GC just might be a place where one might selfishly want to keep their own ‘discovery’ all to themselves..
