Not a good experience. Staff were hard to find, common spaces were dirty and not maintained- dead fish in fishbowl, rubbish in hallway, mould in many places just to start. Private room had mould in bathroom, ants in room, stains on every surface including bed sheets and pillows. Booked in for three nights left after the first, refused to give our cash back. No one was around- stay elsewhere.

Great value - the beds are clean and comfortable (fairly new I think), the free breakfast is better than expected, the staff is helpful. Plus central location. I’ve stayed there two nights and I’m making this this my go-to place to crash in chiang Mai.

Owners are very friendly. The small bar is always full with people eating and drinking. And it's price you can not beat nkr the location. Central to everything

The beds are comfortable and the place is quite cheap. Much cheaper than other hostels in the area but as it's quite new you have to give it a pass with a few things like lack of soap, or the rough around the edges feel. Though it will improve as the owners and staff start polishing it up, until then, still a great place to get a couple of nights in at a very affordable rate.
It's quite central to everything you need in Chiang Mai and it's definitely worth staying if you have a stopover in Chiang Mai for a night or two. There's also a bar up top that I've heard good things about. If the other Purple Monkey hostels are an indicator, this one will grow and develop into a nice social environment soon enough!

Stayed in a private room. Had more spiders than a haunted house. Sheets smelled clean but were heavily stained. Toilet smelled like body odor. Towels were OK, but no soap/shampoo provided. Good location on the eastern border of the old city. Next door to a large DIY laundromat which was a big plus. Staff were OK; didn't go out of their way to help in any way. Wasn't super social for a social hostel, but then again we weren't there on a weekend. Overall very mediocre.

Inexpensive lodging in the old city right on the moat with just minutes walking distance Chiang Mai tourist sites and night life venue's. Poi and Britt are probably the best people to know when looking to fill your time with unique memories of your trip.

Based on the reviews here, I was greatly surprised by this place. There are some negatives that were not mention along with a few positive. My first two nights I slept in the 6 mixed beds dorm. The bathroom is inside the room. The faucet barely had water. There was no soap at all to wash our hands after using the bathroom. The shower pressure was terrible. And the biggest issue was the toilet. It barely flushes. Someone went number 2, he gave up trying to flush the toliet. So yeah you can imagine how gross it got. The room was dirty. There were hair and dust in the corners of the room. I was moved to the 8 mixed bed dorm. It was a little better than the previous room. The toliet worked a lot better. But the shower barely has any water coming out because the hose was broken. Still no soap to wash our hands. So imagine how much germs every doorknobs had.
The good things were the size of the room, comfortable bed, and the breakfast. Unfortunately breakfast start 8:30am to 10:30pm. The biggest downside to this place. They offer tours that start between 7am to 8:30am. So you always missing breakfast when you go on tour. One of the biggest reason I decided to go with this hostel was breakfast, but was only able to eat 2 out of the 5 days I was there. Location is good. It's walking distance from a lot of the touristy spots within old city.
