Five stars for the fresh pasta. If you're feeling a pasta craving as I was when we were enticed in by the manager then you shouldn't be disappointed. There is a but however...
This is a fancy restaurant. One of the fanciest on the strip in BoPhut. When you enter any restaurant you expect a certain standard of service. Sadly Yin Yang appears to have forgotten the principals of a good restaurant - it isn't just the food, it is the engaging of customers.
I fancied pasta (we've gathered that!) and the menu is comprehensive but a little inconclusive as to what, if any variants may be available. For instance I really fancied the basil, tomato fusilli dish but with some chicken. The poor waiter didn't comprehend what I was asking, bit at no point said "let me go and ask". After some frustrating minutes I went for the spinach ravioli not really fancying that but it being the easiest thing to order as it was a special.
The family ordered their food - all staple fare and reasonable but not exceptional. While we were eating, the specials board was edited and lobster ravioli was now available. I understand that specials are made to be consumed, and there is a rationale of use one before proposing another but I am not a vegetarian and would have much preferred lobster!
Despite there being a bottle of San Pellegrino on the table we were offered no water. We had twenty minutes between empty main course plates and offer of dessert menu (and that was because I asked for a menu), and in the end I had to go and find an ATM as I didn't want to pay 3% surcharge for my debit card.
Other vendors have found a solution for the card charges. At a beach shack I expect to pay cash... Not at a fancy restaurant, and not after a sub-standard experience.
The really sad thing is that the owner/manager was in the kitchen cooking when we left so clearly cares about their establishment. I wasn't going to write this review, but they deserve to know that the balance needed to run a restaurant (the Yin and Yang as it were) needs a holistic approach to both kitchen and customers. Get out there and ask how people are enjoying their meals, empower the staff to ask you questions, find the balance.
Finally, the spinach ravioli was good. It just wouldn't have been my choice, given a choice.
