A small community museum that is definitely worth a visit. I learned about the Muslim, Buddhist, Sea Gypsy and Chinese communities that live here on Koh Lanta as well as a little about the impact of the 2004 tsunami. Donate if you can to support their work.

So glad we made time to visit the museum. It's not that easy to find and isn't that well publicised but as Koh Lanta Old Town is so small and undeveloped anyone seeking it will find it no problem. The old wooden building makes for a perfect setting. Before we went in we sat with the museum 'gate keeper' a fascinating older man with a wealth of knowledge about the island, the town and the museum. He told me I was lucky to have my boyfriend. Ha! Inside there's a curious range of artefacts and photos that give insight into the sea gypsy heritage of Koh Lanta Old Town and its Chinese roots. Some parts felt like you are creeping through someone living room. Really fabulous place and a great break from the 'sameness' of the usually tourist experiences. Loved it

This museum is a hidden gem in old town Koh Lanta. It has artifacts of the Chinese, Thai and sea gypsy (Indonesian/Malaysian) fisherman communities with photographs and models. The handbooks on Islam were fascinating, as were the old typewriters and telephones and movie posters from the community. There is a gentleman at the front desk and he welcomes any donations for the upkeep of the museum.

A small quaint museum with local history and artifacts detailing the shared lives of Thai, Muslim, Chinese and Sea Gypsies in the old town. Also some pictures from before and after the tsunami. By donation. I was the only person there and was given a tour. Definitely worth it to put the town into context.

This is the Ko Lanta Museum, in Old Town, Ko Lanta, Thailand. It was closed when my wife and I went there, but then again it was a Sunday. It looks like it would need a bit of restoration, but I do believe the place is still opened.

A real find. This is a small museum of local life of the local Thai, Muslim, sea gypsy and Chinese communities. 30 baht donation. Not big but a very nice local retiree explained many of the artefacts.
